Bolivian top flight football side Aurora have handed a debut to 12-year-old Mauricio Baldivieso in a 1-0 loss to FC la Paz.

Mauricio came on six minutes before halftime, sent into the fray by coach Julio Cesar Baldivieso, who happens to be youngster's father.

Mauricio had a somewhat brutal introduction to the professional game as he picked up an ankle knock within five minutes from ferocious tackle by La Paz's Henry Alaca.

But to the delight of Aurora's fans, who gave him an ovation, the youngster was able to resume after treatment pitchside.

"I am proud - he has a lot of talent," said his father.

Could that be allowed to happen here ?

You would think there would be some sort of rule somewhere preventing it.

Arab, nope.   If the FFA have rules similar to Aus Crickt Ass, no way. If playing cricket, there are very strict rules in place in regards to juniors playing in the senior teams. Seems in Argentina, they make the rules up as they go along .... or no one was willing to challenge the coach for doing this. Ahhhhh, rose tinted glasses can be a pain in the a*se

To be given a debut at 12 means he must be good, and would probably rip this league apart!

Sign him up

LA PAZ, Bolivia: The father of a 12-year-old boy who last week became the world's youngest professional footballer has been fired as coach of the Bolivian first division side.

Former World Cup star Julio Cesar Baldivieso has been forced out by bosses of his club Aurora for refusing to obey orders from club directors to leave the boy out of the squad.

Baldivieso also withdrew his son Mauricio, who turned 13 last Wednesday, from the club.

"For internal club reasons, we've decided to part company with coach [Julio Cesar] Baldivieso," Aurora president Jose Luis Montano said.

This followed the controversy that surrounded Mauricio's appearance as a substitute for the final 10 minutes of a 1-0 defeat against La Paz last Sunday. There is no minimum age limit in professional football in Bolivia.

"My dad told me that he'd start me if we won, things turned out differently but he brought me on," Mauricio said.

After playing in four crosses, Mauricio was stretchered off after receiving a knock to the back of his ankle before returning to the pitch, an incident that resulted in uproar.

Baldivieso slammed club bosses for failing to recognise his son's potential.
