Travelling to and from Gosford

I'm looking to travel to Gosford for the home Semi Final and never been before to Gosford. Travelling down from QLD (flying out of Brisbane) with the intent of flying in on the Saturday morning to Sydney, catching the train up to Gosford, staying in a hotel near the stadium before going back to Sydney on Sunday and flying home. Wanting to know from the locals or those who have done the trip before, what is the best way to do it? Fly to Sydney or Newcastle? Train to Gosford or easier/better just hiring a car? Good accommodation options walking distance to the stadium/Pre-pub meet up.

Train would be better if flying into Sydney and I’m sure there would be way more flight times available to you, think it is around $50 return (just tap your credit card) if coming from or to the airport stations.

If you’re flying into Newcastle you’d be better off hiring a car as it’s quite away from the start of the train line.

Accommodation: Gosford Hotel, Galaxy Motel, Gosford Motor Inn.

Pubs: Bay Road (great brewery), Gosford Hotel, Railway Hotel or Central Coast Leagues Club (across the road from the stadium).

If you fly to Sydney and plan to take the train, check 1st to make sure there isn't track work and replacement buses. That is a real pain.
The stadium is near the station and walkable but there aren't any decent hotels nearby (Gosford suffers from a lack of decent hotels)
Maybe AirBNB an apartment in Gosford?

Fly to Sydney has got to be simpler, unless you hire a car in Newcastle, as the public transport from Sydney is very good - Airport train to Central, Central to Gosford, 1 hour 45 min tops, ten minute slow walk to the stadium. From Newcastle Airport to Gosford you are looking at the same time by car, depending on time of day.

Bay Road Brewery is on the way to the ground from the station and has good beers and usually a food truck. I used to go to the Leagues Club, but they no longer seem to support the Mariners, so they can shove it.

Fly to Sydney and you can travel by train all the way. Just need to change at Central.
Ibis budget would be a good place to look to stay. About a 15min walk to the stadium & train station
Waterview Gosford motor Inn is the other place. It’s closer to the stadium
Bay Rd brewery I believe is the pre-game meeting place.

Also keep an eye out on departure times. Sucks to head up and find you're stuck for 55 minutes because they only come once an hour when you could have hung around and taken in the post-match atmosphere.

This is the best advice you will get. The trains are stopped for repairs all the dam time and buses replace the train which is fine if you have time. But don’t rely on the trains 💯

It’s definitely better option than Newcastle. Cheaper as don’t need a car.

If you want to drive around and go to terrigal to yell at the opposition and half our team then it is probably easier from Newcastle but still not much difference.

Check the train timetable then check it again and then again

CCN central Coast and Newcastle line is quicker (can get express services) than the north shore T1 line (get the wrong train and you are stuck with every stop up the north shore line

If you want better accomodation then a bus or taxi to Terrigal might be your thing but it’s $30-$40 each way taxi but plenty of buses if time it right but you don’t really want to go to Terrigal to come back unless the weather is great or you really need a good bed

Gosford options are cheap but would suit a one night in and out but as someone said a private rental probably better

Fly to Syd get the train up only if no track works (sections of the trip are scenic and enjoyable). If track work fly to syd and rent a car. You'll be hours on the replacement bus it's a massive ballache.

Bay rd is very close to the ground, full of Mariners fans and has great beer. The leagues is convenient but soulless since renovation.

Newcastle is a nice small airport and alot quicker to get your luggage etc but you will need to hire a car. Avis, Budget etc are all there. Hire Car gives your more flexibility.
Sydney Airport is an easy option if you want public transport.

Galaxy Motel is probably the nicest accom in Gossy and is attached to a really nice club. Gosford RSL but its a 10-12 min walk to the ground.
The closest Motel is The Waterview. Its ok and 5 min walk to the ground.

Gosford Hotel is ok accomodation and is a great pub too. 5 min walk to ground.

Gosford Palms in West gosford is nice and about 7 min walk.

The Ibis and Ashwood are other options in West Gosford. (Ashwood the better of the two)

If you have a car then Select Inn Gosford Resort at Wyoming is an option (near the legendary Wyoming Thai Massage shop) or Gosford Inn at Narara which has a cracking Indian attached to it.

Pre game drinks are split between....

Bay Rd Brewery, Gosford Hotel, Railway Hotel, @ Baker St, The Leagues club (disagree with Corsair, I think its much improved with the renos) and Drifters Wharf which has magnificent views.

Enjoy your trip.

Personally, I would plane it to Syd and catch the train, they'll gouge you on the train ride (as the airport station is private) but it is what it is (besides the train ride through Ku-ring-gai is extremely scenic, I've been told by many visiting friends it was one of the most scenic train trips they'd been on, as a local I'm alittle immuned from it's charm travelling it 5 days a week)

Wombat is spot on with the motels/hotels.

If I was coming in for one night without transport it would have to be Gosford Hotel (cheap but clean 1 minute from the station, 2 from stadium), or the Waterview (5-10 walk from station, 2 from the stadium, bit hilly)., or if you want the coast tourist experience jump in a taxi and do Terrigal.
