ALM Mariners vs Nix

I think we're a more complete team, we can play the counter but we can also play with the ball as demonstrated tonight.

That's huge progress!
Our patience was great. There was a period in the second half. Before and just after the goal where we were picking them apart and had them guessing we just didn’t score

What a game. We were back from the first whistle, except for some wasted chances (standard for us even at our best, sadly), and switching off for the Nix goal.
They only started playing when we scored. They are a clinical team but a pretty boring team, really. We pushed through and showed massive determination and guts not to settle for a point and take the win.
Two stoppage time wins in a week.. heart in the mouth stuff but bloody brilliant.
What’s that saying? Oh yeah. “Won’t back down.”
Doka.. I knew it was wrong to deport him 🤣

Chiefly must have been watching the Arrigo Sacchi videos during the week. That defensive block they set out was pretty good.

Took doka running between midfielders and attracting defenders to open up the space.

Beautiful comes in many forms.
Was very secure and reminded me of us against Victory. They had Torres and niz covered in the first half. As you say it wasn’t till we went the middle that we unlocked them and that caused them a lot of trouble but their attack is potent

What a night.
Nix parking that bus made it so hard for us to break them down, tbf it worked, their goal was surgical. But our boys literally never give up and never stop hunting.
Mikael Doka, wow. What a beautiful story of coming good. We seriously need to stop considering him as a RB. Take #2 off his back. His pass for storms cut back *chefs kiss*
And another exquisite finish outside the box on his left side too!

We deserve top spot, because our boys are the best in the country and we don’t even have a prolific genuine #9.

I was so impressed with Nix. Superbly organised and the way they let us come on to them before pressing was really good.
Some of our passing was off but that might have been their pressure.
No striker hurt us at 1-0 up, we needed to score again.
What an atmosphere at the end. Proper football crowd.
3 Doka
2 Dan Hall
1 Storm

Dan got turned a couple of times outwide that put real pressure on us tonight. He was pretty physical and played well but a few mistakes for 2 points

I would have looked at a defender for a point, but then they scored their goal. they have scored 2 dozen like that this year. It was the only way they were going to score, the lack of tracking back made it look embarrassingly easy, it was a full defensive line f**k up.

Good win against a well organised and coached team-they have not amassed 46 points by being just defensive.Their goal was well taken and for once pulled our defence apart. On the other hand they were guilty of many cynical fouls and should have had more yellow cards.

Our team played with patience but at times were able to vary the pace of the game alternating slow build ups and cross field passing with sudden up tempo bursts of speed and excellent use of space to upset and penetrate their block defence.

No one had a poor game but Doka,Torres,Nisbet and Roux were outstanding and Hall and Kaltak strong and dominant.Farrell had a good defensive game and contributed to our attacking forays.Torres looks more composed when he has Farrell behind him.Tapp and Balard won a lot of midfield duels and are the best dual 6 combination in the league.

Our weakness is that neither Kuol or Reec really worry opposition defences and so far Edmo who did not figure in this game also has not set the league alight though when he has played his intelligent off the ball play has not been rewarded. We do miss Cumdingo in that spearhead posse.

I think a CR7 would struggle with that defence tonight.
